based on a translation of
"La finestra che dà sul mare" by Francesco Mega
as I watch the sea
through the window frame
see the clouds fly in
over the lighthouse in rain
blowing the boats as
they try to come home
against the waves they
each go alone
and when the mist or the ocean
advances from the East
like an army invading the mainland
then all your vision is gone and
the grass rolls on and on and
the dusk becomes the dawning
lost in memory
I shall be a guest
in this house not mine
and with my back to the West
praising the sea we've lost and
honor the sea
that we shall never cross
thanks to destiny for safe harbor
for keeping safe and hidden
all our sins unbidden and
thanks to the one who came
for keeping secrets
who tries to ease our pain
but it is all the same
as I watch the sea
I can feel again
how all love is in vain.....
