Death be not proud
though that is your name
Mighty and full of dread
we know your game

maybe when we are dead
you think you won
but you can not kill me
I am the one

nobody dies
who lives in the right
and in the endless sleep
there still is light

the best of us won't give up
the rest will not go
gently into the darkness
of that good night

you heard me right

maybe a slave to fate
chance, kings and men
and once we succumb to hate
not pass here again

poison and war and sickness
maybe you dwell
poppies and charms of sleep
you go to hell

and even if just one stroke
one short time has past
we'll wake eventually
eternity will last
