standing on the widow's walk as night turns to day
I can still remember back when you went away
the sea was calm and empty and the waves lapped the shore
I promised you that I would wait for you evermore
and as the sails disappeared where blue turns to blue
I could feel the touch of fingers on my face too
somewhere out beyond the line the whales are breaking
but here along the rocky coast the dawn is waking
and I am waiting
just waiting
sometime after midnight I could hear the black storm
I forced myself out of my bed where I was still warm
the surf was smashing high and white and wild in the wind
and I was so afraid I'd never see you again
now every day I look to see the fishing boats arrive
there's no way I could know if you are dead or alive
downstairs the house is stirring and the bread is baking
and I am waiting,
just waiting
Dear readers, this is my third book of poems, and inside are a special collection of what have turned out to be not only MY personal favorites, but also the favorites of many of YOU. Some of these have never been available in print before...
