bowing to Baal the master of bull
calling on God to rescue them from
the Midian scourge so damnable

and so then an angel appeared to a man
named Gideon who was the least in his house he
said the Lord is with thee to make a stand
to deliver them out of the hand that oppress thee

Gideon said to God, if be mine hand
let not thine anger be hot against me
but prove to me that I am truly the one
I pray to thee show me thy miracles three

first there was offering burnt on the rock
then a fleece one night wet one night dry
when the ground itself was dry and then wet
and then Gideon knew that the Baalites must die

he raised up an army of many thousands
but God said they were too many a man
so he brought the people down to the water
and kept only those who would drink from their hand

he gave each a trumpet and a torch in a jar
they marched on the camp of the cruel Midians
they blew their shofars and charged to the fore
shouting, a sword for the Lord and for Gideon!

and after the battle he tracked down their kings
and one by one the despots were killed
and all of these things all came about
because it was the plan of God's will

then the men said to Gideon
rule over us rule over us both thou and thy son
but Gideon said I'll not rule over you
for only the Lord shall rule as the one
