on the day after the nuclear rain
the stench of burn bodies hung over the shrines
the army bulldozing all that remained
and the end of the world seemed a matter of time
and Mt Fuji watched over it all
Mt Fuji watched over it all
the mother of sky
not a tear did she cry
Mt Fuji watched over it all
the crocodile people walking round without eyes
the outlines of bodies burned into the walls
the high command insisting on the truth of their lies
while all around dust and ashes they fall
and Mt Fuji watched over it all
Mt Fuji watched over it all
the mother of sky
not a tear did she cry
Mt Fuji watched over it all
first Hiroshima 16th century fort
then Nagasaki the Portuguese port
give up the Fatherland give up the Emperor
unconditional total surrender
how could this happen how could we fall
our country was greater than any before
our people the strongest and best overall
our hearts burning brighter right down to the core
but like the phoenix come out of the flame
Japan was more glorious in its reborning
our history stopped up and started again
but from the volcano we all must take warning
Mt Fuji watched over it all
Mt Fuji watched over it all
the mother of sky
not a tear did she cry
Mt Fuji watched over it all
and when the ultimate fire burns
and the sun on his gun is notching
the tally of the final returns
Fujiyama will still be watching
What a vivid poem that brings back fond memories of Japan. My wife and I are both retired Major's from the USAF and we lived in Japan for three years. I walked in Peace Park in Hiroshima. I passed a couple morning for a loved one. I told them I was sorry about what happened. The father said, "No, not America fault. It was Emperor's fault. He lied to us" and he walked on his way. In reality Japan was the aggressor and like ISIS today people sacrificed their livers for a fake God who provided false hopes. In the end, good triumphed over evil but what a price to pay. Amen
I love historical songs. They convey much emotion and longing for what could've been as well as what was. Mount Fuji may be a bigger threat than those nuclear bombs. Fukushima certainly is.
I've been watching the TV series, Manhattan. There was much soul-searching among scientists there about what they were doing. I had a roomer in my rented house once, for nine months, a chemist who worked on the project, he didn't say anything about it, but he was suffering still from the after affects of his experience. Checked himself into the psychiatric ward at Mayo Clinic for a couple of weeks.
