MOCKINGBIRD
by Joel Sattler

high in the Kentucky hills
I played tag with a mockingbird
I swear if he had had the skill
he'd have repeat every single word

sing
sing little mockingbird

I told him a tale of a love I lost
told him a story he must have heard
sing
sing little mockingbird

high in the Kentucky hills
I was so lost I could not be found
the hills were green and the air was still
for miles and miles all round

sing to me my little friend
sing to me until the end
sing until the sun goes down
sing to me a simple sound

in the wild there's no tomorrow
only the rising of the sun
every day is the only day
every one only one

high in the Kentucky hills
I played tag with a mockingbird
I swear if he had had the skill
he'd have repeated every word

sing
sing little mockingbird

MOCKINGBIRD second version song lyrics
by Joel Sattler

way high up on the hill
I heard a mockingbird
he had the skill
to sing back my words

I swear

way high up in the sky
I heard a mockingbird
why tell me why
are things as they were

I told him a story
of a love lost and found
nights all full of glory
the world
spinning around and round

high up in the Kentucky hills
we sang til the sun came up
and I know that it sounds absurd
I sang with a mockingbird

==========

high up in Kentucky hills
I heard a mockingbird
the air was still
for mile and miles

my little friend he sang with me
sang with a mockingbird
hills were so green
I had to smile

I swear

there was no tomorrow
only but one today
promise of the sunrise
when we
when we would fly away

and when finally sun go down
I flew flew away with her
to a place that was never found
I flew with a mockingbird

==================

way high up on the hill
I heard a mockingbird
he had the skill
to sing back my words

I swear

way high up in the sky
I heard a mockingbird
why tell me why
are things as they were

I told him a story
of a love lost and found
nights all full of glory
the world
spinning around and round

high up in the Kentucky hills
we sang til the sun came up
and I know that it sounds absurd
I sang with a mockingbird

I didn't know mockingbirds until I arrived here. I find them to be wonderful singers when they're in the mood and fiercely territorial making one the "King of my backyard."
