THE WOLF TRAPPED IN THE DOG POUND song lyrics
by Joel Sattler
the hands of the clock go round and round
sometimes up and sometimes down
tick tock either or tick tock other
but there is always a third choice brother
the wolf trapped in the dog pound
proud behind the bars
the wolf trapped in the dog pound
his heart a mass of scars
but he'll never kill again
no he never will again
be what he can be
but in death he will be free
if you know it or not
you'll always be a fool
we always fool ourselves
into thinking break the rules
stand by the window my friend
on the outside looking in
he opened his mouth he had something to say
but no words came out again
the mind is like an island
floating in the sea
what you see is not
what you think you see
unless you saw today
as a bet ready to take
to win or place or show
or some other mistake
never repeating himself
the crow says something different each time
he says caw don't want to eat crow
everybody learns to admit to their crimes
it thumb and forefinger make a circle
tip to tip a good idea
and truth is what you make it
requires an effort few can feel
it's a long time between ticks
even longer between tocks
each beat of the wings is love
each kiss is measured by clocks
a wave of sound fans out
and ends in entropy
to turn a blind eye to fail to hear
what's clearly said to me
even chaos settles down
into some form of order
that's evolution around
from here to the Mexican border
who let the damn dogs out?
and who's gonna go and catch 'em?
and with which or what?
are you gonna go and fetch 'em?
but then there's the wolf in the dog pound
defeated but full of pride
angry and without fear
but knowing he's going to die
so when the hurrican hits
and all you can do is watch
wait for your turn cause the truth
is in the beholder or not
and if you can't tell
if you can't see
if you have fell
if you are set free
remember
the wolf trapped in the dog pound
proud behind the bars
the wolf trapped in the dog pound
his heart a mass of scars
but he'll never kill again
no he never will again
be what he can be
but in death he will be free
