I like it when you're quiet
like a hush and you are gone
you hear me as if from a distance
and my voice then can do you no wrong

the tears have all flown away
and your mouth has been closed with a kiss
and as all the things you are fill my soul
so my soul is all filled up with this

and that is what it is
a butterfly of dreams
the word is melancholy
which is what it seems

I like it when you're still and quiet
like a hush and it's like you're not here
like a butterfly cooing compliant
and my voice is not clear to your ear

allow me to fall in your silence
free of all fear and all violence
a place where a sound can not leave
a place where belief can believe

let me speak to you without a word
just as bright as a lamp or a ring
you're like the night sky constellated
still as the stars and simple things

I like when you're quiet and you bluff
as if you had died sad and blue
but a word then, a smile is enough
and I'm glad o so glad it's not true

allow me to fall in your silence
