walking down the path
where we used to talk and laugh
I remember summers
gold and warm
when we still were young
and capable of fun
and never thought
we'd come to any harm
but that was long ago
the days buried now in snow
and I trudge along
with flowers in my hand
step by step I go
to a place I've come to know
to a place I often wait and stand
bringing sadness and roses
red and white juxtaposes
day and night
all the same where you are now
sadness and roses
silence imposes
one door opens and
one door closes
all that's left for me
is a faded memory
when sun and wind and love
could conquer all
when eyes were blue as sky
and we didn't wonder why
the crows were always ready
with their call
so now I'm almost there
although you're not aware
and I'll never hear
your voice alive again
but still I must go on
although everything is wrong
because every day
must still come to an end
bringing sadness and roses
red and white juxtaposes
day and night
all the same where you are now
sadness and roses
silence imposes
one door opens and
one door closes

Still Living on my Feet is the follow up to Tichaona Chinyelu’s first book, In the Whirlwind, which was rooted in a sense of hard-hitting revolutionary black love. However, in this sophomore effort, Tichaona brings the revolutionary essence from deep
