CROWS FROM THE WHEATFIELD

No matter what it is
no matter what it does
grief is the price we pay
the price we pay for love
love is never free
we feel it in our blood
grief is the price we pay
the price we pay for love

the crows fly from the wheatfield
and circle up above
grief is the price we pay
the price we pay for love

you can fall from the sky
you can fall in the mud
grief is the price we pay
the price we pay for love

the crows are laughing laughing
laughing just because
we are foolish creatures
to love what we have loved

and when tomorrow comes
and the wheat is cut and threshed
all that we remember
are the ones we loved the best

a broken heart must shatter
like a window pane of glass
and all our love don't matter
the hardest love won't last
the future climbs a ladder
the past is in the past
today is torn in tatters
and the die is cast

No matter what it is
no matter what it does
grief is the price we pay
the price we pay for love
love is never free
we feel it in our blood
grief is the price we pay
the price we pay for love

the crows fly from the wheatfield
and circle overhead
and there must come a day
when all we love is dead

God doesn't ever answer
He'll never tell you why
that all you know and cherish
will some day have to die

earth itself has limits
the universe has none
time itself has an end
and so will kingdom come

the seventh seal will open
four riders will approach
and He will come in spirit
riding in a coach

and the crows will talk about it
in words to rip your soul
the sun goes out forever
the world will all grow cold

No matter what it is
no matter what it does
grief is the price we pay
the price we pay for love
love is never free
we feel it in our blood
grief is the price we pay
the price we pay for love

thank the Lord for what we had
it wasn't always bad
we did all that we could
sometimes it was good

the sun may soon go out
but it will be born again
and so shall all of we
and we shall meet again

Rather long. I don't believe the last line. But love does come with a price. In our short lifetimes tragedy usually comes to greet us.
