My Heavy Heart Laments

What makes men answer to the call of hate?
I wonder, as I mourn for those who hurt
as for myself, I grieve; Dark is our fate,
morning’s evil as night; I am alert,

I cannot rest, as in my heart believe
love’s losing the fight; I heave the warning:
life’s a graveyard for the those who are naïve;
Dark’s the yarn that weaves tales of mourning.

Can we not read the plainly written word?
Not see its Dreary alliteration?
Death’s a Dark Desire ruling the world;
taking blameless, the Dire obsession

that makes men answer to the call of hate.
I weep as young ones fall to such Dark fate.

"...life’s a graveyard for the those who are naïve;

A thousand stories spring forth, a flood of images, all birthed by these words -- OUTSTANDING wordsmithing, Carmen!

Reduces me to tears - both verse and visual that captures the sense so well: hopelessness IS dire indeed - darker than the darkest evil which we can experience because there is no way back if all hope is gone: apart from the barbarism that is breaking our hearts and the ensuing grief, it's the abyss of hopelessness that is Hell itself. I feel like the last candle has been snuffed here, Carmen... There is "a weeping in Ramah indeed; Rachel weeping for her lost children". God help us - for the ones whose lives we have spilled and for those who are still alive to pick up the inheritance we are yoking them with. What a world we have created as we have lost our way in pursuit of self. This completely breaks me... But as long as there is God, there is hope... but will we turn to Him?! How far we are from national days of prayer and mourning and pleas for help and mercy, it seems. Who knows what one such global day could do?... or rather, God in response to it. Kate xx

Very touching words here Carmen. Hate is such a strong emotive word and is such a tragedy that it is ingrained into so many...best wishes Andrea

A "Dark Desire" indeed, this hate and death business.
Thank God it will shortly come to an end, as Rev 21:1-5
promises.
Excellent lines here, and lovely alliteration.

nicely moulded sonnet to flesh out the theme & its enigma
i thought only tentatively touched here & there could be more forcefully elaborated moods which your poetry tends to bring out
in further writing saludos

I agree with Ed, hate has been around since the beginning of man and will probably always be with us. Yet we push on somehow.

Carmen, this say's it all, kinda been like it since Adams fall.

But like birth pangs, the darkness is gathering momentum..

When men refuse the battle cry, then we have a chance of sunnier times..

Heavy heart, head bowed, a weight that brings us to our psychological knees. You echo my feelings, my words benumbed, of the moment, Carmen.
But we cannot stay here.
It's the same old fight mankind has been fighting since forever we've been. We're still here. The fight is never over and at worst must be over - never.

You've done a fine job with the sonnet format, conveying your heartfelt message beautifully through the medium.

Extremely heartfelt write, Carmen.

Sadly, I do believe that Darkness is the song of human fate; hatred has roamed among mankind since mankind first roamed this planet, and it will probably always be with us. And usually, the innocents are the ones who suffer the most from it.

Carmen, It's called terrorism. A terrorist is low already, but when they lower themselves to the point of terrorizing and murdering innocent children, then it's certainly time for the world to open their eyes. It's not going to stop there. And just because it was in Russia, doesn't mean tomorrow it won't be in Australia or England, or here in the US. They declared Jihad some time ago, they are now showing the rest of the world, their description of fighting it.
An awesome write Carmen..very well written.
