A well-written poem challenging the status quo and the perception that, unless the message is carefully confined and strained through the sifter of the artifice of mathematically-precise and familiar poetic construction, the voice of the poet is somehow considered LESS than it would be if they followed convention.

Some poets are so locked into following the rules of convention that it renders their poetry bland and formulaic...the message lost, the voice strangled, the emotion diluted to a pallid anemic trickle.

Keep challenging the conventions, Carmen! Write it YOUR way!

but do we stop to see, and sieve the dream,
distinguish between truth, and fancies� will,

..I, for one, do not stop and sieve..hmm maybe I should..actually I only follow the heart's dictate ...and so on paper I skate..enjoying the ride and a smooth glide!

I hate rules....I write like I have since I was 13..Rhyme is as natural as breathing to me.

I agree with Robert...the heart writes for keeps.....this is fantastic Carmen one of your very best....

My muse never shuts up though! lol

And yes, I write lot's of bad ones...lol

I felt myself chasing my muse through a maze to ask for a name. I'm not good at following poetic rules, but sometimes get lucky. My problem is that my muse whispers a quick idea and I take 3 pages to translate it. **S**

Fantastic poetry Carmen! Sometimes I have to wonder if we are too stringent, the opposite of what you say, in the way of rules. I kind of balk at the thought of poetry having to have any rules.I believe it is still one of the very few bastions of free speech left, and perhaps we should think twice having to bridle it, even if we must put up with garbage at times.

i believe the poet should always write from the heart, though his muse may be fanciful or based on fact the overall results should be to satisfy himself and then to inspire the reader ... the important element, is that the poet has not deluded himself from not distinguishing the differnce between his fancy and reality within him and surrounding him ...

Carmen, this is quite thought provoking. I like Ed will have to taste this one for a bit.
