On Remembrance Day we recall the cost of war; to bad we forget the lessons of the 11th by the 12th.
In every church there hangs
lists of young men’s names.
Hand written lists,
worn and faded,
of young men’s names;
young men
who sailed away
into the storm of a torn world

In every town across the land
they stand: markers, pillars
cenotaphs concrete or marble;
on some a bronze soldier
forever on alert, stands guard.
On others are carved
Place names Ypres,
Canal du Nord, Vimy,
Lest We Forget
In the church hang their names
dusty and forgotten:
In the square the bronze Tommy
stands alone forgotten
While we continue to study war
and to send more young men
Into the storm to patch
A world that we have torn.
