sometimes...

 Deep is there earth here
over the young rocks,
geologically young rocks.
Compared to flesh and blood,
these deep bones of the earth,
are unfathomably ancient.
Flesh and blood is fleeting,
pointless ~ devoid of reason,
purpose, meaning. The rocks
here are full of the remains
of life that flourished eons ago.
To what end?
Indeed.
To what end?
To provide an object of study,
an object of wonder,
a red herring:
to divert attention from the essential
fleetingness of flesh and blood:
to keep the observer busy
while time sneaks up through the
rocks
and takes him out

Good grief, John.. this is bloody beautiful! How can we truly enjoy the sun if we don't delve into the depths now and then for an honesty check? Yin/Yang.. well done on this yang, you! katy.
