                                  by Susan Rowse

This is the tears of war. The fees we pay for freedom. It is battles' destiny that touches home in it's final tribute.

                    *skr*

Ave Maria echoes from the rafters of the domed cathedral
It pierces the silence of doom that befriends the dead
Organs become mute to voices of angels here for burial
Where war returns the Patriot to his beloved unafraid
Colors of bravery cloak the pine as tears wash over his courage
Grief is alive while bravery is spoken instead
Mortals grieve for the Gods of Destiny
Festooned with wings now the sons of the Dead
Ava Maria the chorus of angels sing to the spirits
While hearts reach out for love that will never be fed .

Had me remembing back many years of attending services such as you have written here. You have captured the services as my mind members. Yes war does take love ones from us and causes grief, but it also makes those who fought and returned wonder why not them instead of those it took..
This was excellent and thank you for sharing it
