This is one of my father's paintings. He called it "Blue Boy". The Meduim he used was oil and a palette knife.

My Dad was an artist and the pictures that he drew
Made us all very proud of him
His talent...wisdom too
Some say he was a Shaman
In some life long ago
He taught his eight of nature
Our Earth...above...below
He said that we should put back
From nature what we took
Make this world much better
I could write a book
On Dad's philosophy
His natural way with people
The way he had with creatures
His strong Tuetonic features
We all learned of bravery
We never knew his anger
He was a proud Texan
He never met a stranger
Dad is gone and in his place
Eight smiles of talent plenty
To carry on in his good way
Then bow out very gently.
Your work, Susan, proves again, that one of the most satisfying acts we can perform is making a tribute to one of our parents. This is one of most sincere and effective ones I've ever seen. Kudos and all the great words of praise... to you... and your father. - Bill
beautiful introduction to someone very special/why don't you really write that "portrait" of your father? could be a small book. Have you read Buscaglia's (i love him) Papa, My Father? if not, it could give you some ideas. i think your writing of your father could be a special read.
A beautiful painting coupled with beautiful verse: the complete, perfect tribute to your Daddy. I know he's proud of you, his little girl. Congratulations!

What a very original and stylised canvas - I am jealously proud of your late, dear father's artistry.
See how he managed to capture the 3D effect. H used thin lines resplendent against the broad black brush strokes of the hair and guitar bridge, and in the thick line along the bottom of his forearm and hand - shading that is important in creating the 3D impact. And the action! The picture is buzzing with it, it depicts a seating of action: the player listening intently to his guitar - listening to his guitar either speak or even weep. So many interpretations to be teased out of this striking portrait. I have taken a big gulp of your esteemed dad's inspiration from this this morning.
Your tribute complements his life and work - as a father of a thirty year old daughter, with whom I am very close, I simply love reading daughter/father tributes - I have been doubly blessed this morning.
Thank you very kindly for posting this visual and poetic feast, Susan. It has been most edifying.
Well defined tribute to a man you obviously not only loved and respected but a man you also looked up to and honored. I am sure he would be very proud of you and your life and the tribute you gave him with this write is no doubt accepted with a smile on another plane of existance. Well Done Susan.
