Poem Artwork

The nights are long and you search the streets
Never the equal of you to meet
A little is here and a little is there
Not quite enough to completely compare
The ego of one with the Id of another
A desire to suck in, entrap and to smother
For dreams that escape with a victim suspect
In a space of lost time where senses detect
A smile that's inviting, a sameness of heart
A face with my spirit, a shadow and spark
Eyes that hold images locking with same
Passing in darkness he whispers my name
Scars with soft tissues embe dded in souls
A heart reaching out to break your mold
Faces are masked and asking to dance
With a night showing promise
Passions with chance
As long as I'm walking
Each step on a stone
Streets full of people
In pairs or alone
Showing their love or blending in grays
When the sun hits the shadows
Then I've seen better days
Challenge is an issue for each fated step
Becomes progress in finding the Id with my depth
For lust is one thing that passion can't hide
And if wishes were horses more fools would ride.

I remember walking those streets. both do and don't miss them. I liked this. It's a week of strolling down memory's lane for me so this was understood. Lady J

Susan, finding the right person to fit your personality & sameness is hard to do. I loved your ending...it was great! A Good Write!

In Charleston the nights wouldn't be long enough, with you here. ; )
Love "if wishes were horses more fools would ride" that's just brilliant. You're still my muse.

this is funny, clever, and profound all at the same time, susan:

A little is here and a little is there
Not quite enough to completely compare
The ego of one with the Id of another

The desideratum has wise words for us: always there will lesser and greater people than yourself. Be careful, strive to be happy!

Great way to end a poem. They say opposite attract, but you search for one like yourself. Difficult. Victor

'A heart reaching out to break your mold' is like super. Interesting this phrase, 'blending in grays' as well. Nice job and thanks a million for sharing.

An enjoyable read of one looking for their love of comparison, one seeks to fill the void od another and yet it is the void which is elusive as the days and nigths passing...

nice work...

enjoyed...
