My Father died on New Year's Day...this is a smidgeon of his wisdom.

Dad was quick with wisdom
He used it like a tool.
My favorite of all time from Dad
"Ya don't grow old being a fool"
He'd wax poetic now and then
Kept us kids a'thinking
Taste your words before you say them
He'd smile and start a'wink'n
Many a friend I chose to meet
Was because he had no fear
They're just as scared of you , he'd say
So speak on up, my dear
The greatest man I ever knew
Never had the blues
He'd dance a minute just for kicks
Then walk in everybody's shoes
The kindest person to all man
Children and animal's too
I know for sure from dear old dad
I'll never become a fool.

"Wisely and slow; they stumble that run fast." -- William Shakespeare

Very loving tribute to a man who obviously had a wonderful life long affect on you and your own special way of thinking and what a tribute to start each New Year with memories of your father.

Oh my, this has more wisdom within these poetic lines than many books... And what a great chap you had/have for a father...
Weird cos over the last few years I refuse to rush, one gets to the same destination, but in a relaxed cool, and effortless way. Patience is the key in every situation.......

...of all the schools in the world...how might wisdom be taught...but those persons and experiences held close in life...inherent.

You then have extra special reason to feel a sense of orientation and fresh resolution at this cusp of time every year, Susan. How bittersweet! This is both testimonial and tribute and I can think of no better inspiration with which to start the New Year than by drinking to the memory of one so wise whose life has proved to have been so beautifully influential where it counts - amongst those who had the privelege of sharing his space and time. I know that you will step into 2008 with renewed vision and strength, Susan, and wish you joy in your remembrances and celebrations. Love, Kate xx

As you know, Susan, poets and writers are at their best when they record memories of those loved. You, my dear friend, are an outstanding example of this fact as you trace the traits making up the man of your life, and the values he imparted to you and family. No grave stone or recorded events in their lives can say it like the children. Each word and line makes a wonderful New Year's gift for all. Thank you for mine. - Bill

This is such a soft and sweet memory, Susan, and I thank you for sharing it with us all. To lose someone at the holidays can put a nasty stain upon them for us always, but you have cast that aside in your rememberance, understanding that it is not how or when we die that matters but the way that we lived our life. Happy New Year to you and your family.
Take care,
Sherry
