TODAY’S THE DAY
I’ve been writing poems
for roughly fifteen years.
Some of them brought smiles,
while others brought only tears.
They were my medicine,
helping to soothe the loss.
My bridge into tomorrow,
if I could ever learn to cross.
Most of them were written
about my long lost wife
and rarely did I share them
with other people in my life.
One day a friend read a few
and it was obvious she really cared.
She thought they were very special
and insisted they should be shared.
So, we started looking back
at others that I had written.
“You should have them published,”
said the one to whom I’m smitten.
It was like pulling teeth,
for all the urging that it took,
but at last I finally decided
to turn some of them into a book.
The decision now was made
and so the search began.
Go out and find a publisher,
at least that was our plan.
Much easier is that to say,
than it turns out it is to do.
There are shysters in that game,
just between me and you.
Weeks and weeks we searched,
many trails we traveled.
Each time we were nearly there
something would come unraveled.
Finally an honest man
we happened to come across
and the numbers that he talked
made me want to call him boss.
Today it became a reality,
the book is finally available.
I like the way it’s packaged
and I really hope it’s saleable.
It’s titled, A Pursuit of Life
and it’s available from this site.
I hope people like my work
and I believe the price is right.
