My Grand daughter is driving now. Seems like just a few months ago she was excited about becoming a teenager at long last. Where does the time go?

CHRISTY TURNING THIRTEEN

You’re turning thirteen,
a teenager at long last.
You’ve probably thought of it often
as the years have trickled past.

In a few years you’ll be driving,
then out chasing around.
You’ll have your own wheels
when you go out on the town.

Next, comes graduation.
Hopefully, then on to college.
You should study really hard
gaining a wealth of knowledge.

It’s always the smartest people,
who earn the biggest bucks,
but usually the people who get there,
don’t get there just by luck.

You must plan for the results,
You hope someday to be getting
So, right now is the time
you should do some goal setting.

But, you can’t just think them,
they need to written down.
And, it’s not bad to share them
when you have your friends around.

You’re known by the company you keep,
as I once told your dad.
Make friends with good people,
try to shy away from the bad.

We’ll be family for life,
but your friends will come and go.
So, be selective of the friends
that you really get to know.

You should choose them wisely,
they should have similar goals.
You might be friends forever,
one just never knows.

Your goals will keep on changing,
as you attain some and add more.
You must keep adding to the list,
so life won’t become a bore.

Plan where you want to be
in five years, or even ten.
Put it on your list,
live your life with a plan.

What you get out of life
depends on the goals you spell out.
If it’s not heading where you want,
somehow you must turn it about.

Once you’ve defined a goal,
make plans to attain it.
If you don’t put forth some effort,
likely you will never gain it.

Ask questions of yourself.
Is it within my grasp?
What do I need to get there?
Should I take another class?

Constantly, you should be adding
more new goals to your list.
And, read it over often,
are there some you may have missed?

I’m here to tell you girl,
when your life runs out of goals,
you’ll feel completely aimless,
like so many other lost souls.

And another thing I’d like to add,
you should try to be more involved.
Extra curricular activities have a purpose
that’s the reason they’ve evolved.

Competition is very healthy
and it teaches many lessons.
Lots of things that you can’t get
from academic sessions.

And, I’d recommend choosing
something that will last.
Something that could be a hobby
until your active years have passed.

I’d recommend that you play golf,
of course, it can be expensive,
but you can do it by yourself
until you’re not so apprehensive.

Thirteen is a SPECIAL birthday.
But, of course, there will be more.
Each one hopefully more special,
than all the ones before.

Just be sure to enjoy their coming,
cause they come and go real fast.
Try to enjoy every single one
more than you enjoyed the last.

One of life’s great secrets
is to always have lots of fun.
Enjoying lots & lots of birthdays
is the best way to get that done.

Richard,

Very wise words from a grandpa. My "little" granddaughter graduates next May. Teenage years, as I'm sure you remember from your children can be trying, but also a blessing. God Bless You and your family.

Mary
