TO MY MOM
As my mind takes me back
to all the times that we’ve shared,
I realize how poorly I’ve been
at showing how much I cared.
You have always been there
to lend us all a hand.
First to offer encouragement,
first to show you understand.
Yet, somehow you’re always last
to accept our gratitude.
Whenever we try to thank you,
seems you always cop an attitude.
Possibly I may have done a better job
of bringing up my sons.
But, when it comes to carrying on
I know they will be the ones.
They’ll make us proud, I know they will,
thanks in no small part to you.
The lessons that you taught to them,
show in all they say and do.
When it’s time to step to the fore
and for them to carry on,
I’ll know that much of what they do,
came directly from my mom.
