My youngest son, Timothy, unexpectedly passed away a few days ago. He died in his sleep and we don't think he suffered, but it has been the most difficult thing I have ever encountered. Years ago, when his mom passed, we were expecting it, I was prepared for it. This has proven to be much more difficult.

Through the tears, I have managed to write him a goodbye poem, but it very likely will be my last posting for a few days.

TIMBO

He’s always been a wonderful son,
a best friend to his brother
and as a dad to daughter Christy,
he shared the loving traits of his mother.

Everyone who knew him
considered him a friend
and for everyone who needed it
he had a hand to lend.

If it was broke, he’d fix it.
Seemed, he could make anything run,
it used to be, working on old crap
was his way of having fun.

Appearances didn’t much matter to him,
from way back in his early years.
He’d drive a piece of crap,
but he could run it through the gears.

He was a mechanic early on,
but he liked doing body repairs,
taught himself to paint,
just one of his many wares.

He moved from Michigan to Florida
to be nearer to his brother,
went to work for his uncle Mike
doing this, that and the other.

Later, he worked in irrigation,
until the company was sold,
then he moved on to do upholstery,
which seemed so very bold.

But it was something that he mastered
well enough to open his own shop
and though he hadn’t made it yet,
he was working his way to the top.

He leaves a multitude of friends
in Michigan and Jensen Beach,
cause in all the things he did,
you’d never hear him preach.

He lived life to the fullest
though not always at its best.
He’d lived through some troubles,
but he stood up to all the tests.

He loved his only daughter.
She too, loved her dad.
They always had each other,
which is what makes this so sad.

Always I’ll be proud
of the man that he became
and always I will know
that his daughter feels the same.

We now move on without him,
thankful he didn’t suffer
and for the great people around us
who offer us a buffer.

And for those who have the faith
I offer this bit of reassurance.
If there really is a heaven
his mom will welcome his presence.

He lives now in our hearts.
