I’m a couple months late with this one... It's been in the hopper for a spell. I moved away over 20 years ago, but any Michigan springtime is absolutely unforgettable. Fall and the changing of the colors might be a close 2nd, but springtime offers the promise of new beginnings. Fall signals the ending of growth and the coming of hibernation. Opposite ends of the spectrum, both necessary to the cycle of life and each enjoyed and appreciated for the contributions they make to the joy of life in the Water Wonderland. (sometimes known as the Winter Water Wonderland)

SPRINGTIME

The sound of a spring rain
falling gently upon my window sill
signals the cleansing process has begun
followed by the smell of sweetness
that always follows a spring rain.

And after the rain stops,
 the sun comes out.
Chirping birds and crickets
play the most peaceful tune
while the occasional frog chimes in….

Hand in hand, lovers stroll past
as all creatures are at their happiest.
Spawning begins,
days grow longer
and the clock backs up an hour.

Green takes over,
mixed ever so perfectly,
with pinks,
violets,
yellows
and blues.

Springtime in Michigan,

Heaven can wait.

Sounds a little like New Hampshire, though I must gently disagree...I prefer fall.....Nice job bringing us "right there."

Aw man. Aside from the fact that this is a really good poem, you have hallucinated. Spring in Michigan lasts 3 days. Two of them involve mosquitoes sucking the life's blood out of every creature between Lake Michigan and Lake Ontario. It is followed by Indian winter which lasts until July. August is torment month where the humidity always exceeds the temperature by AT LEAST 50% which is when I invest heavily in the stock of any company selling athlete's foot spray. Winter returns in September remaining firmly entrenched until the 3 days of spring. Heaven can have it. Patrick

so refreshing richard....we in the south were a bit cheated out of all but a tiny piece of spring and tossed unceremoniously into a 93 degree summer.

Sounds a lot like my spring here in Nova Scotia, besides being almost surrounded by the ocean, the city I live in is nick named the City of Lakes. Great job Dick.
