Dick-idiom # 70 - Daddy's Words

"Dick-idioms" are little philosophical gems I have penned over the years. The numbering sequence has no relationship to their importance, or pecking order; it's just my way to identify them. This one concerns lessons from my father. He's been gone for nearly 40 years now, but I still remember.....

DICK-IDIOM #70
 
DADDY’S WORDS
Motto
 
 
 “There’s a time to fight
and a time to walk away…
The wise man knows the difference
the foolish nearly always stay.
 
You only fight to save,
never to prove.
 Fighting for any other reason
is likely a foolish move.
 
The smartest might be right,
but the toughest usually wins the fight.
Course, it really doesn’t matter,
they’ll read you both your rights.”

Only had one fist fight in my life and neither of us landed a blow.It did resolve the issue however. I did accidentally break my brother's nose once when he was demonstrating his karate expertise as we sparred. He damn near broke my leg the next day with a kick in the swimming pool. Claimed it was an accident. Patrick

You know Dick looking back to my younger years I did my share of fighting and scrapping. The neighborhood was a rough one and though some would argue it...you fought and survived or you ran and were bullied forever.

Reading this very fine piece sort of reminds me of my youner years. I was always ready to fight. I have several scars to prove it. Good job as always, Dick.
