Wanderin Man - 1 - The Beginning

This is a fictional reconnoitering of one of my childhood dreams, which was to become a vagabond philosopher, living off the fat of the land and my wits. Somehow it never worked out that way. Probably not enough wit, cause our land still seems to have a lot of fat.

WANDERING MAN

Sundown….

From the shoreline
of Lake Michigan,
it could never be more beautiful.

Then,,,,
shortly after the suns last rays,
campfires begin appearing.

If you’re lucky,
shortly thereafter
you’ll hear the whispers
of a distant songstress.

Dinner is long past,
fish again!
Freshly caught & cleaned
during the days doings.

Still to come,,,
a glass of merlot.

…and, of course,
 those glorious stars.

Conversation is limited
to the occasional passerby.
“Nice evening,”  “Pretty sunset.”
That’s about the extent of it…

Wandering man they call you,
though,,,,  you’re not exactly sure
just when,,,
 or why,,,
 that moniker stuck.

Long ago, you had roots…
a place you called home.
Family,,,
 a profession.

Wandering man
eventually took over.

Now-a-days,,,
“family”
 is any fellow traveler
who stays longer than a week…

Labor Day approaches…

Time to start thinking
about moseying south…

Not much to pack,
 lots of time yet.

Hate to miss Indian Summer…

Guess there’s no hurry…

Maybe this year you’ll be lucky…..

Maybe not….

I spent a lot of time just north of Ludington in the summers. Easy visualization. Patrick

Wander you may, but your verse stays in a Place of Honor in heart and mind.

Dull way to put it, but it is m a r v e l o u s.

You put us t h e r e. Never want to leave!!

Even when it's h e r e-an' t h e r e.;)

Thanks for another great trip, Luv.

Oh my the thought is wonderful, I have never been able to indulge the wanderlust that is inside but the thought grows with each year that passes! Lovely images!

Don't wander about as much as I used to, but the bug remains. Never have to ask more than once because I really don't care where I am going, as long as I have another chance to go. In the beginning a backpack, then a stationwagon, now an RV. There are beautiful, wonderful people everywhere! Never lose the bug..

Be always safe,
Karen

Hah! I was most defiantly a wandering man for about four decades of my life, although I wasn't doing much philosophizing. Then again, maybe I was.

Fresh fish & a glass of merlot under the stars. Your words are so appealing. Can we be part time vagabond philosophers? I hope so.

Enjoyed this Dick, I think most men and a lot of women have a wander lust that perhaps goes back into time to days of following herds and seasons. I still get the urge now and then to just pack up a bed roll and go...

Beautiful write Richard,I think I still try to live as long ago, I love knowing I have roots a family and all that goes with it but a dream may change all that in seconds. Great write.
