I suppose this poem, written for my son, could apply to almost anyone in your life. He loves me. I love him. We seldom show it physically, but we both know. When I need him, he’s always there and vice versa.
A wonderful look into the heart of a relationship between father and son; rare words that most men do not share with others. Thanks for sharing this offering with us, Dick. Beautifully done!
Like yours, the relationship with my dad was rarely physical and there were many years we didn't speak but once or twice a year. I was living out of state and wrapped up in my own life. About 5 years before he passed, we spent more time talking and a bit more time together. Not nearly enough. Cherish what you now have. Patrick
Yes I grew up in an era where men were frowned on for showing any kind of affection towards each other, even Fathers and sons,my Dad died suddenly when I was only in my early twenties and I never got to say the words I wished I could have said to him, still like your poem suggests...he knew I loved him, and I knew he loved me. Thanks for sharing your sons thoughts with us.
