This Dick-idiom attempts to point out that children eventually have to “leave the nest.” When the time is right, you must allow them to test their wings and hope that you have prepared them for what they will encounter.
This is surely the secret of a long and happy relationship with one's children. So many parents find themselves at loggerheads simply because they are afraid to let go.
So true you are my friend, we can defend, guide and nourish but at some point we have to let them stand on their own with only our love and faith behind them.

Your "Dick-idiom" carries a mighty weight with its words.
This is such a wise and true statememnt! As parents, may we all be there for our children, no matter what their age, like a light in the window guiding them toward our love should they need our help. Great Dick-Idiom.
