I love to write and poem, I know that there are many others who do also.
I dedicate this poem to those who have and have not been beat down to raw meat. For a long time and to this day I have been beat, ridiculed and got my feelings hurt for my hobby.
Tough meat, too tough for a lion to eat. Meat that won't rot, or cook up easy in a pot. Out in bad weather, the meat still stays together.
In the hand of the matter, a pen that won't shatter. Meat that writes word, makes no difference negativity heard. Word wrote in blood, that will survive the worst flood.
Person meets meat, there it sats on the throne seat. For years a hand of meat, guided by a brain that refused defeat. Writing and poeming dominates, in a tough writing world that discriminates.
The lions await! Their stomach will turn, a digestion problem exist. I wonder why?
Grady a great write and spot on! Only poets truly appreciate each other. Yes, there are people of all kinds who enjoy poetry, but they are in the minority, which is why it is such a hard sell. The
internet brought the poets out like ants over running everything. So many of us it fostered new publishers etc, and it's now flooding our pages, but sadly hardly anyone buys it except we who write it. Only a lucky few ever break through to the "Outside world". Sad facts, so just keep writing for yourself and those of us who feel the same as you. That's the way it is, and has always been!
Thanks for speaking up for all of us here, Grady, I am sure. Funny I should turn up here today, cos, having just read your biog, I was thinking that it must be a tough thing to be a poet/writer in the (what I would perceive to be the hard-nosed) environment of law enforcement... but then, who am I kidding?! It's tough enough to "come out" as a poet ANYWHERE in these days of post-modernist "what's the point of THAT?!" culture. Keep on keepin on, Buddy, cos one of these days your words are gonna unlock the doors to the heart of someone you are gonna be dealing with face to face... on either side of the legal fence, I am sure. This is a muscle-flexin write - no beef! Seems to me the lions can dish it out but they sure can't take it! With you they'll have bitten off more than they can chew! TY Kate xx
Oh, my family believes I write well, but they don't read it much. They think it's all about them. ROFL. Keep writing, Grady. There's always somebody somewhere with a beef about something we do. ~~Nordette
I know how you feel, Grady. Most of my family has tried to put down what I do (or else they aren't aware of it!), but I refuse to stop, especially now when things are starting to gel. God gave me a Gift, and I refuse to give it up! Very well done; stay strong!! And NEVER stop writing!!

my family does not ridicule my poetry but what they do is even worse, they patronize me by saying i have a nice little hobby, not that anyone but my daughter has ever read a word of it

I think they can't read and hey I must say you aren't the only one with this problem.
Lions I know can read and I ain't lyin...(don't you ever sleep, posting this in the 330am area, LOL) and I feel where you are coming from here, though I never got negative feedback from my writing desires...fortunately, as I am so gullible I would most likely have never written again, or so that anyone could see...;) Ed
“The woman or man who is a poet, or fiction writer, or playwright, or all of these, is engaged constantly in a jazz ballet of vocabularies, passions, genders, histories, perspectives, death, love, and life. The music of revelation announces itself to
