Baby boy or girl, you've got grow up to make it in this world.
For a long time I wasn't sure, if I was really mature. Even after I grew to be a man, I wasn't sure about my plan. One thing about plans, if you don't make a good one, plans will make you. Every red eyed immoral sucker you follow, you'll end up just as hollow. If a person doesn't stand for something, he might fall for anything, then comes the suffering.
Shucks I was following my dad, who most of the time was angry and mad. He was a father, who never did bother. Then there was grand father, I wish I never did bother. Grand dad drink, gambled and womanized, the milk he drank wasn't even pasturized. Most of my aunts and uncles didn't give a chit, the only good thing I can say about them is, that they never would quit.
So here I sit, in this hollywood city, most of what I see is a dog gone pity. Everyone wants to be a star, they try so hard, they barely know who they are. Soaked up in alcohol and drugs, many with blood stains on their rugs. Some wannabe stars are now feeding the bugs.
They became pigeons in their own minds, never could hardly lift the blinds. Finally I learned to lift my shades, never hardly saw the ace of spades. Most of the dealing came from the bottom of the deck, next thing I knew I was a complete wreck.
Humpty dumpty fell off the wall, but I learned not to stall. I brushed myself off, hoping the next time I'd land soft. Soft never hardly ever came, but there was plenty of disgust and shame, however like my aunts and uncles I stayed in the game, waiting for the devil to show up again with his hot flame. Surely again he'd call my name.
Facing up to our imperfections, sometimes we may need the Lord in our connections, especially if we can't make the proper corrections. I made some corrections slowly, some of them were kind of holy, then again some were actually holey. The bottom fell right out, so again I had to twist and shout, let it all hang out, try to stay away from the stupid route.
Finally after learning to kiss azz, I got a good grade to pass. Most of the time Love isn't nothing but azz kissing, more or less a bunch of idle wishing. Most of the fools you love, don't do nothing but push and shove. But it's the safest way to live, a person really has to be mature to love and forgive.
Breaking any cycle is difficult, but through perseverance it can be accomplished - if we but turn to Him: ask for and accept His guidance. "... a person really has to be mature to love and forgive" - age is irrelevant, I think.
God bless you. Kathy

Hi Grady,
Life is not easy, for sure. Your poem tells it like it is. As I grow older, I find it is hard to keep up and to remember. What is maturity? Maybe it is accepting that we aren't getting out of this world alive. We all are going to die, but if we live a life pleasing to the Lord, we can look forward to a resurrection and living in Heaven.
Everything is not always as wonderful as it seems from the outside. Good write.
God Bless,
Lew

Some things that I will not do is kiss ass...refuse to compromise my morals, and when I see no integrity in man/women I leave. Yes, forgiveness is best, but to compromise with evil would be a greater sin. Loads of wisdom in your words Grady, love Holly
