She lived in a prison as child..
One made up by adults..
She had no control
She could not talk..
Close a door..
Take a morsel of food..
Turn on a TV..
Pick up a phone
or just go outside..
No.. these were forbidden,..
Without permission..
They were always fighting..
Someone usually got hurt..
She was always in the middle..
Trying to stop the madness
make it go away..
To just be a family..
just try it for a day..
After black eyes..
and a broken nose..
Countless black and blue marks
to her young soul..
After being called every name ..
This nine year old
could take no more..
So she finally she grew a spine.
or maybe she just lost her mind...
she fought back..
she talked back..
she closed doors..
turned on TV's
she ate food sometimes
when she pleased..
She took her beatings
as they came..
but she continued
to confront them..
she was insane..
She didn't care
if she lived or died..
She had no reason
to run or hide.
She screamed at them
as they bruised her skin
"if that makes you feel better"
"Do it again"
and again..
and again
Because she was insane..
Fat lips, bloody nose, broken bones..
who cares she was in control..
She didn't care..
She wanted her world
to burn in despair..
She wanted to take them with her..
into her eternal hell..
THEY no longer controlled her..
She controlled them..
Controlled their emotions..
that led to their actions.
and even though she
had to live with the blame and the pain..
It just didn't matter..
because she was insane..

Emotion is the enemy of rationality and logic.. When it becomes strong enough to control your actions.. your life is no longer your own..
She loved them as much as she hated them.. but she was insane
Sometimes I just don't know what to say, your poems are so excellent. Wait, they make me angry and make me want to change the world or maybe destroy it, don't really know.

This one broke my heart. I pray that this world has a change of heart soon. Child abuse....all abuse must end. Beautifully done. God bless you! Love, Beth

Truth is stranger that fiction. And knowing how much of this is true, makes me want to cry for a month. Baby, baby, I feel so sad that this happened to you. I realy don't know what else to say, except I wish I could bear some of your pain and lighten the load. Bill

So very sad sweetie.

Your last line "She loved them as much as she hated them" even though it's contradictory itself, but it rings truth. Many DO feel like this.
Great heartfelt write!
