My Daddy's Snakeskin Boots

This actually happened a few weeks ago.. I thought it was strange..

Poem Artwork

There I was
Sitting in this dark bar..
Drink in hand..
trying to unwind..
Going back in time..
Drowning my sorrow
In a Corona with lime..
Trying to keep my head
on strait..
Remembering you..
In all your fun
peculiar ways..
Your snap down
western shirts
Two pockets
Never one..
HAD to have snaps
on each pocket..
Had to order the arms
extra long.
If not..
You wouldn't even
try it on..
Boot cut jeans..
To fit your
snakeskin boots..
The ones that make you
walk tall..
And they did..
In a strange kind of way..
You always wore those boots..
For dress or for play.
You were sooo stubborn.
S E T .. In your ways..
Wish I had those boots
right now..
Just to be closer
to you somehow.
I was NOT looking for a
shoulder to cry on..
Just wanted to be left alone
with my pain..
Alone with my
memories..
Of times that
use to be..
Along comes this man..
I could sense
something on his mind..
He was drinking the way I was..
Not drinking to get drunk..
Just taking up time..
A look of loss in his eyes.
He tells me his father
Had just passed away..
He came here for the noise..
Didn't know what else to do..
He talks of his memories..
His sadness..
How he felt lost..
He looked more like
a boy that night..
Sitting on that stool..
Kind of lost in this world..
Without his fathers love to
guide him through.
I watch him stand..
To leave this bar..
I look down at the floor
as he walks away..
Snakeskin boots..
I said out load..
Identical to ones
my father wore..
The man turned
with a sad smile..
And said they
were his Dads..
So he wore them
for this night..
Right from the hospital
The pair his father
always wore..
Then this strange man..
Sadly walked out the door..
He never knew my story..
So I sat there alone again..
Thinking of my father and his
strange peculiar ways..
Thinking of him and his
snakeskin boots..
Walking tall through
heavens gates.
