This is to my husband... who doesn't get near the credid he deserves

Poem Artwork

You held me down..
Yet let me fly..
Kept me grounded..
Yet my wings spread wide..
Taught me how to find my home..
Yet never left me long.. alone..
You wished my dreams harder than I..
You wanted my glory..
to shine through my eyes..
Not once did you look
to see what was in it for you..
All things wonderful...
You wanted for me.
You have a spirit as pure and white
as heavens glories light..
I know I have put some scars
on your spirit at times..
Little scars..
I wish I could find..
Take back..
But you smile..
Happy that you have these
small scars from me..
They are proof of real love..
That is what you see..
I look at your brilliant soft brown eyes...
And know these were the ones
I dreamed long ago as a child..
Sitting on a swing set.
Dreaming as girls do..
Waiting for my soul mate..
I knew instantly it was you..
It wasn't your kindness..
Your likes
nor your actions..
It was simply fate
making the world right..
This was destined to be..
No need to fight..
We rolled with the tides..
Waited for our destination..
Now married for many years..
I have no regrets..
Except you are a purer soul that I..
I wish to learn to be the one
to light your way..
Let you fly to your dreams..
Let your soft brown eyes
sparkle with delight..
But you claim you only get this..
When my eyes are happiest
For then you know
I have not given up on life.
You are a man, and old soul..
That was sent to light my way..
May God finally allow me..
To give back to you someday..
As I look at the smile on your face...
I know you are my heart..
My lover.. my only safe place.

Erica, love your poem and tribute. Some are happy just to make others happy. That is their purpose in life. Sounds like an awesome person.
