My Pocket Friend

Still working on this..pulled out of a stack o papers from my teens.. This is actually one of many imaginary friends I had as a child.. Yes, many thought I was nuts.. Walking around talking to my pocket..putting food in my pocket.. but I was a child of seven to nine.. Insanity was mine.

Poem Artwork

I had this little friend..
When I was a child..
I met her in my room..
On a long cold night..
She just appeared on my pillow..
No bigger than a thimble..
She asked if she could stay..
I thought she was a tiny angel..
The way she glittered ..
The way her smiled shined..
I put her in a secret place
from that day on she was mine..
She said her name was Lisa..
She said she heard my prayers..
She said she was here to help me..
For now on she would always be near..
So she lived in my pocket..
I tried my best to give her room..
Making sure she didn't suffocate ..
In her small but loving home.
She talked to me on the way to school..
She told me jokes to make me smile..
She was part of my own imagination
I am sure..
But Lisa stayed several years..
I know I would not have lived..
She was my salvation..
This tiny little girl..
No matter where I was..
I knew I was not alone..
She couldn't stop the pain..
But she helped stop the tears..
I wonder what happened to Lisa..
My little pocket friend..
I guess as one grows older
imagination has to end..
What shame..
We have to outgrow..
These simple pleasures
of the mind..
These protective devises
that keep us alive..
But I will always remember Lisa..
And her shimmering rays of love..
I will always remember Lisa..
I know she was sent to save me..
I think from myself..
I hope she lives in someone else's pocket now..
Who needed her like I..
I hope she is still spreading her hope..
In the eyes of another needy child.

Children are not bogged down with societies norms so their minds are open and I do believe that Lisa was real and sent to you.
aside from that i found this write very delightful and inspiring
you have touched the inner child inside yourself and let it speak
in the most touching way

She went from your pocket to another pocket because she knew you would be okay. This had a feeling of the "little" people about it. Usually only children see them. Great write!

I bet if you called in Lisa she would say "HI!"...No, I kid you not!..Many nature spirits appear to lonely children..you must have been rather spacial for you had the capability to SEE her.
...Call her..then let me know..I'm serious when I ask you to do that..you will be pleasantly surprised indeed..and NO!!! YOU are certainly NOT insane if you do that...try it and see! ty

What an excellent poem. Lisa was there at a time you really needed her and I thank God for her being there for you. She was truly an angel. I am sure that she has been from child to child since she was with you. You were blessed to have such a "special little friend!"
