In The Rain

Crickey, dug up and recycled one of my first poetic efforts back in 02. Ain't it funny how we think our early work is cringe factor.

When I’m in the rain
I can’t remember my name
My only thought as I lie on the grass
Is when people rush pass

I hear them moan
In their overtone
I love it here all alone
As I look to the skies
Raining soft needles in my eyes

The rain blows through my hair
Washing away all despair
I have no more care
Another nature’s millionaire

Seeing lightning give all it’s got
As I hear thunder shout out its plot
When I’m in the rain
Seeing mother nature’s not tame

I just do not want to go
Now I wish that it would snow
As creation gets a wash
The flowers start to grow

Birds flying in the know
They don’t have to think
About their next drink

Then the sun comes out to play
As if it’s given birth to a new day
As I kneel here and pray
Thanking God for life being this way.

This poem has a likable simplicity to it that is clever, but also incites deep thought. I especially like the line about thunder "shouting out its plot" and birds "not having to think about where they get their next drink". Also, the line "another nature's millionaire" is a golden phrase that is clever and fully understood. Deep, friendly, passionate and witty... an insightful and well-executed poem.

This is stunning, and such an uplifting poem!
And I know, I feel so at home in the rain. I like to be barefoot in a downpour, and you have to agree it is inspiring to listen to ~
or if I have to cry I appreciate a storm to be in, it's like God is having a cry too.
