The silenced bells bellowed From hamlet to village green Cricket (willow on leather) Would soon, again be seen Bells roared ‘Rejoice Rejoice’ from town to City, ‘Ole Blighty is free From German tyranny’ The skies were silent The guns were spent The streets were dancing The bulldog had barked One nation rejoices Another repents ‘Germany calling Germany cooling Germany fooling Germany falling’

A firm reminder that not unlike Germany, history is littered with similar stories of power and the lust for same that ultimately brings down its followers. Well penned.

Looks like a Spitfire, those planes and the pilots that flew them saved England from total annihilation...Germany lost many, while the Royal air force lost few...good write, Andy, good to see you writing...-e-

A triumph over tyranny. It must've been something to experience the quiet of peace after six long years of frightening skies with enemies overhead day and night.

It's interesting to note that Germany came back quickly after the war and became an economic powerhouse again, thanks to the Marshall plan. I'm not saying that war is an antidote for economic recession. What I'm saying is that perhaps United States would be better off with a Marshall Plan here today.
