(J)anuary 1, (J-1) 2010 Focus & Direction
So it’s J-1
The old is done.
I’ll now pursue what’s true , new, and
Will bring me through to
The next phase,
The next page,
The next stage
Of what lies ahead
In this drama called "Life."
So I’ll write the vision and make it plain
Then prepare my fields for the latter rains
Of blessings that will overflow,
My cup, my harvest for this I know
I will reap sweetly for the seed I’ve sewn;
And joy will replace the sorrow I’ve known
In the year now past and overthrown
We now call it yesterday.
*Good-bye yesterday!*
J-1. J-1 I’ve now begun
The trek that follows my pre-ordered path;
And begin the New Year with a quiet blast
That blows open the damn from my writer’s pen,
To compare the now, with what was then
The telltale signs of my personal growth
Have I kept my promise or honored the oath?
That I’d made to myself, as to what would be
Of the year now past, that did rapidly flee
Away. Away. Away from me…
So quickly it seems.
*Though the trek, the task to begin again is fruitful.*
For the well-ordered life can stand introspection,
Can brave the way for new direction
To accomplish the will I was created to do
To rejoice each morning for mercy that’s new
And grace just sufficient for each day alone…and then
I will take up the charge as I pick up my pen
And write and recite it over again
"I CAN!"
"I CAN DO!"
"I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST WHO STRENGTHENS ME!"

January (J-2) Gratitude
J-2, is the glue that seals the deal
That fuels the passion of what I feel
To have faith that the promises be made real
I can’t touch it yet; but I see it still
And taste it… so yes I believe.
I believe I can have what my mind has conceived
I can taste the victory my dreams have retrieved
From the yester- year that faded so fast
With fragments of hope from desires past
The strings of fulfillment within my grasp
So I’m ever, ever reaching for my goals.
Working out my salvation in my most holy faith
Through prayer, building stamina to run the race
Set before me.
Lord I need You now, like never before
The enemy’s trick is keeping a score
Of the times I have sinned and fallen short of the glory
And the times I’ve messed up he re-tells the story
Of how I have squandered your marvelous grace
As he comes to Your throne, to throw up in Your face
The ways I’ve let you down… Father.
Yet still I come BOLDLY before Your throne of grace
I fall to my knees and lay on my face
And cry out to you, for I know you will hear
You have not given me the spirit of fear,
But of power, and Love, and a mind that is sound
You died for my sins, so I won’t be bound
You will not give me over to the killer and thief
You are well acquainted with temptations and grief
We’re connected by blood
You’re the branch. I’m a leaf
On this tree of life so filled with fruit
I have loved you Lord from the days of my youth
I am grateful that You first loved me.

January 3, (J-3)
J-3 brings a plea for courage and strength
That I won’t fall short, but will reach the length
Of the lofty heights that my mind can’t conceive
God prepared it for me, so I must believe
That He Who has begun a good work in me
Shall see it to completion.
So I’ll brave the winds of the great unknown
Step out on faith to take hold of and own
What God’s shown to me
In visions and dreams
I stand not alone for I have been redeemed
By my Kinsman, my LOVE, the Holy One of Israel
The Lion of the tribe of Judah
No other one with God’s sovereignty
Not Mohammad, nor Krishna, or Buddha
But the one who knew me before I was born
The One who keeps filled my blessed horn…
Of plenty.
SELAH.

January 4, (J-4)
J-4 gives more possibilities to explore
More time to plan, to accomplish the chores
To set off the action to my satisfaction
To see my dreams realized.
I’ve studied the ‘Haves’ who were once ‘Have-nots’
The ones who have banished from their lives stuff that ‘rots’
The ‘Stuff’ that healthy souls weren’t meant to bear
Like bitterness, anger and worldly cares
The ‘Haves’ strategize and plan ahead
They don’t sit back and live in dread
For the thing that you fear will fall on your head
Like bricks from a house of worry.
So I’m making my plans, and seeing them through
Preparing my hands for what they must do
To pick up my pen filled with manna and love
To help shift your focus to Who reigns above.
God gives you the strength for what lies ahead
Take caution and care for the words you have said
Will reflect in your life like a mirror.
Speak life to your soul, speak life to your dreams
Choose well your words, whenever it seems
Life’s circumstance is just too mean
To conquer.
Your words have the power to set the pace
To give you the strength to run your race
They can prop up your spirit, when it leans to the side
Be the wind in your back and smooth out your stride
As you run.
Learn to speak God’s word, and don’t be annoyed
God’s words will never return to Him void
The promise is real with concession
Proclaim your desires, profess your confession
You WILL see whatever your mouth does say,
One day.

January 5, (J-5)
J-5 brings more of the usual jive
I rejoice today in being alive
Despite the challenges lurking to leap
I press to my bosom and promise to keep
God’s word hid within my heart.

J-6 for me, an emotional mix.
Murphy's flaunting his law, with it's dirty tricks.
What to do? What is done? And what needs a fix?
Make beds, wash clothes, cook dinner by six.
Muscle up for the fight, when life throws it's licks.
I'm drowsy as heck, and my work isn't done.
Is it the allergy pill? Shucks I only took one!
My minds in a fog. What a terrible fix.
Ah these are the woes for me on J-6
Yet I'm thanking You Lord, for these so LITE afflictions
As I'm pressing on, with determined conviction
And I'm praising You Lord with a shout and a clap
But I'll finish my chores, after I take a nap!!! ;-0

January 7, (J-7) Affirmations
J-7 rolled in with an arctic snap
My fingers froze when I turned on the tap
And gazed in the mirror and mouthed affirmations
Then smiled to myself to feel the sensations
Of the warm water flow through my fingers.
"You're a woman of wisdom, wealth and grace."
I affirmed to myself in the mirror's face
"You are healthy and wealthy and wise and well"
Looking deep in my eyes, I continued to tell
Myself what I must to believe.
For me to receive, then I must say
And affirm to myself everyday
"I am fearfully and wonderfully made."
In my Father God's image ( I look like my Dad)
I smile once again, cause I'm very glad
I can have what my Abba says!
So like Him...
I shall call those things that be not
As though they were, I'll give it a shot
To conquer the fear of failure and lack
To nurture my self and not hold back
On my faith, yes I believe.
It's not a sin to want something more
Like the Saints of old, who walked before
They stepped out on faith, with only a dream
Believing in God, though sometimes it seemed
Impossible to attain.
Jesus came, He said
So that I can have life;
I can choose to have it free from strife
I'll enjoy my life,
In abundance too.
He is not a man that He should lie
not a thing He's prepared for me, He'll deny
He love's me. He love's me.
This I know IS true .

January 8, (J-8)
J-8 has certainly opened the gate
To explore new paths,
With more to create.
My morning meeting went really great;
But I'm mentally forking the tasks on my plate.
Am I giving my all to my current position?
Am I a true team player advancing the mission?
Should I raise the bar, and set higher goals?
Or be patient to see how it all unfolds?
For now I'm an indian, assisting a chief,
I serve with humility, avoiding the grief;
Not often regarded for all that I do,
But for the best outcome, I'll focus my view.
I am meet to stand and follow through
On the trial that is set before me
I'll swallow my pride, learn the lesson You teach,
For to You God be all the glory.
It seems silly to me, to make easy tasks hard.
The simplest path seems the best.
Is the patience I've prayed for ernestly,
The reason for this test?
I trust You Lord as the hour glass
Is turned and shifts it's sands.
I know I'll emerge victorious
For my life is in Your hands.

January 9, (J-9) Work it!
J-9 is Saturday, that's just fine
Let go of the weekday hustle and grind
Chill out with my family, ease my mind
And laugh cause it's good for my soul.
My kids called out "Mom come check out YouTube!"
With laptop in hand, they burst in my room
To show me some kids dancing to a "Bounce" tune
Loose butts bouncing wild on the screen.
Now let me explain what "Bounce" music is
It's all the rage with New Orleans kids.
The music is fast with a funky beat
As they shake their butts wildly and tap their feet.
Now their shake is like nothing you've probably seen
The Master bounce dancers can work their groove mean
Pivot down on one leg and turn it around
Kick a leg in the air
Do a split on the ground.
All this, while shaking backsides in a frenzy
People standing around
Tourist throwing their pennies
In caps and hands in the old French Quarter
I'm looking and thinking "That's somebody's daughter."
Amazed at their motions, and moved by the beat
I found myself rocking and tapping my feet.
With hands on my hips moving side to side
Lost in my groove, til my daughter cried
"Ya'll, look at mama, she's doing the dance!"
Their loud screams of laughter broke my trance.
I opend my eyes, pursed my lips in a smirk
Said" Ya'll didn't know I could make all this 'WORK'?"
As I tapped my behind, and now laughing to tears
Asked them,"How did you think all of ya'll got here?"
"Hey!"

January 10, (J-10)
J-10 a new week begins again
Woke up feeling bad, so I just stayed in
Watched church on the net in my satin PJ's
Lift my hot mug of coffee, and give God the praise!
Come out! Come out! Where ever you are!
Bishop Jakes preached at church today
Of Jonathans victory against the Philistines
Gave me hope help is on the way.
For the battles I face, are not bigger than, the God who goes before me
As I step out on faith, and face my fears, I will trust God and give him the glory!
From the book of 1 Samuel chapter 14
Bishop Jakes really preached that text
I will face the challenges coming my way
And not fret of what may come next.
It's time for me to rest again
My head seeks a soft fluffy pillow
Say a prayer; go to sleep; dream sweet and know
Where ever God leads I am willing go.

January 11, (J-11) Mom "Stuff" come's in 3's
#1
J-11, was full of surprise
It seems from the moment I opened my eyes
At four in the morning to see my son
Fine tuning his homework and getting it done
He'd been up all night surfing the net
"Have you been to sleep son?" " No Mom not yet."
Oh what havoc procrastination wreaks
"How long have you had to do this son?" "About three weeks."
#2
The afternoon was not much better
My daughter was crying, hmmm...
What could upset her?
"School mom; it's school.Sometimes it's pain!"
"So much coming at you, it makes you insane!"
"Well to whom much is given..." I started to say
She cried into my shoulder, where her head lay
"I know mom, I know. But sometimes it's rough.
"As hard as I try, it seems never enough!"
'I don't want to dissapoint you." She miserably moaned.
"You can't dissapoint me. Your life's journey's your own.
I said, "My life is my life, and your life is yours."
"We were not all created to choose the same doors,
Of life's opportunities, varied and many
Blessings abound, on paths aplenty!"
#3
The evening had more, in store, for sure!
The weight had become a bit much to endure.
A "mini" crisis , the gut wrenching kind
Jerked at my heart, and troubled my mind.
No mom, ever, wants to see her child suffer
To save them from harm, we become the buffer
We throw ourselves in front of the bus
So they won't get hit, we sacrifice us
Sometimes, we must stop and realize
Things happen in life to catch us by surprise
What God has in store we don't always know
It takes sunshine and rain to make flowers grow
And sometimes manure to enrich the soil
Too much "Mom" intervention can ruin and spoil
What God is perfecting in our children's lives
The harshest conditions can teach them to thrive
Inspite of hardships, set backs, and such
We can give some assistance, but not be a crutch
So I cried my tears, then tucked them away
Crawled back into bed about 2:30(a.m.), I'll say
Instead of complaining
I'll trust, praise, and pray.
