We need sex education in the schools. We need to protect our young generation from the hazards of child pregnancy, STD's etc.
Mary dropped from school
She was only seventeen
She walked barefooted
on the thorns of infatuation
She became pregnant
Her boyfriend dumped her
Her family disowned her
Out in the cold she was thrown
Mary fell in the jaws of poverty
Only warm place around was a pub
She became a prostitute
In the Tavern A drunkard tosses up coins
touches her in the waist
Takes her to the stage.
But each step of the dance
pressed a new button of pain
Dancer didn't notice this
He crossed bridges
but never saw the waters
In the eternal mirror of TIME
Mary sees images of reality
She sees an immature single mother
she sees a child raising a child.
But far behind the ramparts of despair
Mary sees a ray of hope.
Abdi-noor, it is so sad, yet this happens all over, even in the wealthiest and most enlightened nations. It just isn't perceived in the same way, because it's accepted and kept hidden, mostly! The whole world needs an education my friend....I'm sad because it is more prevalent in countries like yours due to the poverty levels.Prayer is the answer, if only enough people wood do it!
This is a reality for many dancing girls in the third world. Matter of fact, the ray of hope that you show in poetry is an illusion for most, rather all the affected girls. The child raising child never really happens because the mother dances the night away and needs the day to rest, while the child grows up in the streets. By the time the dancer retires from the podium and thinks of attending the child, the child is no more a 'child'...And then the real pain starts. the buttons of pain that have been pressed years ago, now activate the relays and floodgates open...
This is truly a sad situation that you have expressed, one too often seen. A very well written piece, and I agree with Bill, ending it with a ray of hope.

Abdi-Noor, I am so glad you ended the poem on a ray of hope. All some people every have is hope all their lives. When they lose it,
all is lost. These lines you used are magnificient! ... "She walked barefooted on the thorns of infatuation" ... I had never heard this unusual combination of words. Brilliant. Bill Murray
