At a ceremony held at Benadir Hospital in Mogadishu students from Cimran Hussein School donated dry food to the newly-born babies and their mothers. 12 years ago the same ceremony was held at a camp in Mogadishu to hand over food donated by French school children who saw starving Somali children in the TV. That was very kind of them and the memory of that event will always remain in the hearts of the Somali people. Children helping each other while adults are killing each other. I dedicated my poem to both Somali and French school children.

Well over a decade in Mogadishu
a historic event took place
A ship docked at the sea port
It carried a consignment of hope
It brought food to our children
It was donated by French children

But far Between the food and target
There lied a heavy security task
Chaos and strife dominated the city
Hardly a minute passed without shooting
Safe corridors and passages were opened
Food was at last distributed to children

Today Cimran School visited B. Hospital
Somali students donated food to patients
Oh what a memory this event triggered
It reminded me days when we had no shcools
It reminded me days when we saw no child carrying books, pens or pencils
It reminded me days when no generation was expected to replace the old one
It reminded me those days when we protected a kilo of rice with money worth of fifty kiloes.
If those days are the mirror of time
Today is the image of a peaceful tomorrow.
