Abdulkadir Hersi Yamyam is famous Somali poet and a great literary treasure. He produced hundreds of songs while his poems are in the tune of thousands. He is being resettled in America together with his family after they got sponsorship from relatives in the States. He and his family moved to Nairobi to undergo procedural resettelment matters. Yamyam has had no ambition to leave his country but the prolonged unrest and chaos in his motherland forced him to flee to abroad where he can get better facilities and better opportunities. One of his hit songs is ISHA which goes like this: YEY KU DHICIN ILAMADU DHIR ABAARSATEE ISHA SACABKA MARI. Meaning, " Clean the eye with your palm lest the tear falls on dry (famine-ridden) trees. I dedicate this poem to that great Somali Poet

His name is Abdulkadir Hersi
Yamyam is his nickname
He is a famous Somali Poet
He is a defender of rights
He is a voice of the victim
He is an advocate of peace
He is a poet of all genres
He has exceptional talents
His poems are deep and powerful
They touch one in the heart
His mind is awake and alert
Beauty is what it can offer
Never ever it coughed hatred
That poet is tonight on travel
He is bound to the United States
Columbus, Ohio, is his destination
As he left the transit lounge
A familiar person had emerged
Yamyan was caught in surprise
He was indeed shocked
She was Somalia in a human shape
Tears filled her beautiful eyes

"Oh Yamyam" She said
"Oh my love"
YEY KU DHICIN LIMADU
DHIR ABAARSATEE
ISHA SACABKA MARI
Clean the tear from my eye
Let it not fall on dry twigs

Thank you very much Abdi Noor. This is an inspiring and patriotic poem filled with wisdom. I really appreciate the way you described the greatest Somali poet's move to the USA. I pray Allah to give fruitful life to YAMYAM and his family. You deserve my sincere appreciation and that of Yamyam family.

Cheers.

I hope that your YamYam will find a peaceful home here in the USA, Abdi-Noor. It is sad that someone who brings hope and a higher elevation of thought to the Somali people has been forced to leave due to the degree of unrest there. Even sadder still, is that his voice will not be heard as loudly or with as much clarity and fervor by those who need to hear it the most. Thank you for letting us know that this beautiful person will now join the rest of us immigrants and kin of immigrants here in America. What a wonderful tribute you have penned here!
Take care,
Sherry

Abdi-noor,

This is a wonderful tribute to a great poet. I love the imagery in this one--especially

She was Somalia in a human shape

Well done! :)

I wish Yamyan good lucks in everything he does in the new land.

There is another singer of Somalian origin in Toronto as well. He sings inspirational rapper songs.
