In Somalia the existnce of Freedom of Expression was as hard to believe as seeing a fish in the forest or a shark in the desert or a husband expecting a smile from a wife he forgot to bring her flowers. Now F-of-E is no stranger guest in Somalia. At Hotel Sahafi in Mogadishu, over fifty NGO's, Artists of different sorts and media groups gathered to form a Somalia Freedom of Expression Coalition which will stand to protect the rights of very Somali who may wish to express his/her views without damaging others' freedom.

A cell phone rang unexpectedly
Owner jolted with little surprise
F-Of-E. called Civil Society (CS)

"Helo Somali Civil Society"

"Helo, Who is it?"

"This is Freedom of Expression. F-of-E"

Freedom of Expression? Do I know you?

You know me elsewhere, but not in Somalia

"Wonderful. Am I receiving a distance call?"

"No. I'm calling you from within Somalia"

"Somalia? Where are you hiding?
You must be an alien to this country.
The former regime recognized you as evil
Journalists made their way to prison
For the sake of you poets were jailed
So much of anger built in mountain size
Somalia exploded overnight like volcano
The military regime crumbled over itself
Warlords came into being to milk chaos
Their prime mission is to hang F-Of-E
You appeared in the wrong place sister
Do you not fear for your life?"

"You are right. Thanks for your concern
Warlords have now turned to ministers
There is a breathing space in Somalia
That is where I would accommodate myself
But let me remind you one thing, CS
In my name one should not abuse anybody
F-of-E has limits. You should know that

"Ah we are happy to have you in Somalia
It is like a day-break for a dark sky
Welcome freedom of Expression. Welcome
You are a ray of hope for desperate souls
You are the railway of Somali peace train"
