WHEN I WAS A YOUNG MAN IN THE CITY
I HAD MANY CHANCES TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF
BUT I LACKED THE WISDOM TO CONTROL YSELF
I DEVELOPED SMOKING AND DRINKING HABITS
I SPENT ALL MY INCOME IN LUXURIOUS ACTS
I THOUGHt I COULD SAVE WHEN I SATISFIED MY NEEDS
BUT MY NEEDS WERE NOT COMING TO AN END
ANY TIME I MET ONE, ANOTHER WAS COMING UP
NOW I HAVE REACHED THE AGE OF WISDOM
TIME HAS TAUGHT ME TO BEHAVE DECENTLY
BUT I AM AN OLD MAN WITH FRAILING HEALTH
I AM NOT AS PRODUCTIVE AS I HAD BEEN BEFORE
MY CHANCES TO RE-BUILD LIFE ARE VERY SCANT
WHEN I HAD THE STRENGHT
I DID NOT HAVE THE WISDOM
NOW I HAVE THE WISDOM
BUT I DON'T HAVE THE STRENGHT
those last four lines are so, so true, aren't they? also loved your lines: "But my needs were not coming to an end / any time I met one, another was coming up." lots of wisdom here and, I daresay, a fair amount of strength to rebuild your life and the life around you. Write on! Dawn
