I AM A SOMALI MOTHER.
I AM A SINGLE MOTHER
IN A CROSS SHOOTING
I LOST MY HUSBAND
I TOIL TO SURVIVE
I TOIL TO RAISE CHILDREN
I WORK IN THE MARKET.
I CARRY HEAVY LOADS
L E A V E?
I'M NOT ENTITLED TO IT
SICK OR NOT SICK
I HAVE TO GO TO WORK
A DAY OUT OF JOB
IS A DAY OF NO INCOME
ONLY A WEK AGO
I GAVE BIRTH TO A BABY
DOWN MY WAIST
A LIQUID DRAINS
YET I AM NOT AT HOME
I AM IN THE BAKAARAHA
MY BABY IS CRYING
I HEAR HIS SCREAMS
I CAN’T JOIN HIM
I CAN’T NURSE HIM
WHERE ARE MY MOTHERHOD RIGHTS?
WHERE ARE THE RIGHTS OF MY BABY?
AN STRAY CAT CAN GIVE BIRHT TODAY
AND TOMOROW IT IS OUT FOR HUNTING
IT HAS TO FEED ITS KITTENS. HASN’T SHE?
IN THE INTERNATIONAL RECORDS
I AM REGISTERED AS A HUMAN BEING
BUT IN THE STATISTICS OF SURVIVAL

Abdi Noor this tears the heart and soul. Sometimes I'm amazed by the fact that we call ourselves humanity !I pray one day soon we will know the peace of our mighty God!
A sad and heart-wrenching write, Abdi-Noor. Life can be so difficult for a single mother anywhere but in a war-torn and poverty stricken country, it is nearly impossible to survive. Excellent writing!
