I dedicated this poem to Weris Derie for her efforts to assist a Somali girl, Deeqa, who desperately needed medical evacuation following a brutal rape inflicted upon her by gangs in the forests of Mudug region, Somalia. In July I posted a poem (A sister in Pain) requesting assistance for Deeqa after I visited her at her home in Mogadishu. There was nothing I could do at the time other than praying for the teenage girl to get medical evacuation. Now Deeqa is in Vienna, Austria, where she is supposed to get attention and treatment.
Deeqa was born in pain
She was raised in pain
She was a victim of rape
We begged God to help Deeqa
The Lord answered our prayers
He sent another sister to help
A Somali Model stepped in
Her name is Weris Dirie
She came to Deeqa's rescue
Deeqa received sponsorship
She was flown to Austria
She is being taken care of
Weris is a flower in the desert
She is a distant light of hope
She is a sister with a difference
The hospital is a source of mercy
Its kind doctors are spring of joy
Austria is the warm heart of Europe
Thank you Abdi Noor for giving us an update on Deeqa, I have prayed for her and I am so happy to hear that Weris Derie provided help for her. What a blessing God has performed. We must keep praying, and please keep us informed. A wonderful outcome for your poem! Bless you!

A very moving tribute to Waris Derie with whose work I am very familiar. Deqa reminds me of somebody I knew, but that was in another life... But I'd give my life to know what happened to the person.
