Why should I be poor?
When I have a long coastline
When I have plenty of fish
When marine resources are abundant
Hunger
Why should I be hungry?
When I have vast agricultural area
When I have very fertile soils
When weather conditions are favorable
Disease
Why should I let disease kill me?
When I can build hospital facilities
When I can train doctors and nurses
When I can make low cost interventions
Malnutrition:
Why should I die from malnutrition?
When I have huge livestock population
When water and pasture are available
When eco-systems work well in here
Strife
Why should my people kill each other?
When I have efficient customary laws
When I can set up government machinery
When all mechanisms are well in place
Despair
Why should I live in constant fear?
When I can get peace and security
When I can enjoy love and harmony
When I am a Moslem with strong faith
Why am I counted as missing
When I am present?
Why can't my country be part of the world?
WHY?
You pose all the right questions Abdi Noor. You even give the right answer. It's so sad that you can't get yur people to understand that with education they can elect leaders that will provide a fairer government. It may not be perfect but none ever are. However, I differ from what Karla says, because this country has it's share of poor people, but it is only a speck compared to nations like yours. Also the poor here live better than the poor anywhere else in the world! Also Hundreds of bilions are spent in this country on the poor, but many do not wish to change their lives. The curren spending was just shown to be 346 billion dollars in the past years budget. That is enough to wipe out poverty. However, it is not used properly by many of those who oversee the funds, and also by the poor themselves.There are many other reasons, but suffice it to say in USA poverty is in no way like it is in Somalia.They call it poverty here when they live in decent houses and have cars and get food stamps, all provided for by the government!
