polio has resurfaced in Somalia after it was eradicated from the country several years ago. It crossed over the red sea from yemen where the battle with polio was still going on. I express my gratitude to the national and international organizations for their effort to fund the polio vaccination projects
Several years back
When you attacked our children
We had a big fight with you
Our health teams wiped you out
We celebrated for the victory
you turned the spleen to Yemen
You picked a new fight with them
You fell into a tough engagement
You retreated to war-torn Somalia
You couldn't sneak into other nations
Check points are erected everywhere
Somalia's porous border is uncontrolled
No one would ask identification papers
So it is your strategic base of attack
Your return evoked fear on our minds
You killed and crippled our children
Now we stage a campaign against you
Not bombs or bullets we do fire at you
We instead kill you with life-saving weapons
To you vaccines are drops of death
But to us they are magic drops of hope
Splendid poem Abdi Noor! So sad that it has to be battled again, it is such a terrible disease. I hope and pray it is defeated quickly! I'll keep in special prayers, and put it on the boards.
i had to go back and read twice...i thought this was about the game polo and i was a little confused. we have been lucky that polio is more or less wiped out here but if people become lax about vaccinations, it will resurface
