Alcohol Robbed a Star

Alcoholism is dangerous. This poem is dedicated to the intelligent and famous people in the world who had many things to offer but unfortunately fell in the trap of wrong temptations such as alcoholism and later on died from excessive drinking of alcohol. I advice young people not to drink so as not to become victims of alcoholism or their lives lost without milking it efficiently.

He stared in the open thoughtfully
He carefully studied the orange horizon
He saw his world turning inside out
He was high with a hot stuff of alcohol

His judgement was terribly impaired
He saw the shadows of despondency
Cast upon him by objects of despair
He ate himself inside himself

His aching soul wept for help
But no ray of hope did shine around
No light did he see at the end of the tunnel
Everything was buried under illusion

His intention to live was not to live
He systematically plotted himself
He needed no enemy to take his life
He was perplexed by the winds of time

To live in peace with himself
He had to free himself from himself
He had to fight himself to be himself
His fame was fading away like a veneer

Alcohol has been his sole liberator
It let unfavourable thoughts die away
It let him enjoy his timely freedom
But never had it made him himself again

The price he had paid was so much dear
He had to cash a whole organ for alcohol
He paid a piece of his liver for each bottle
In between the sips he had time to borrow

Each drop took him closer to his grave
He finally put last nail in his coffin
John passed away peacefully in his sleep
Alcohol robbed a star in the sky of fame

What a deep, emotional and informative poem this is! You have captured the "demons" of alcohol so vividly. Great read...

The lines quoted above capture the sad cost of alcoholism. Your words affected me truthfully. Thanks for caring!

Very vivid portrait of what alcohol does..It took my father at 42 and he was very bright but loved the bottle more than life. It is a disease but one that offers a choice unlike many others. Well penned!

Alcoholism is a decease, not an addiction. It takes one's determination and also the moral support and understanding of one's friends and family members in order to fight it off for one to be cured.

A very thought-provoking piece, Abdi!

;'-( I've know a few other stars who were lost the same way. Thanks for the beautiful poem. I wrote one (not nearly so eloquent) Jack and Jess, about one who was close to me.

a powerful gut wrenching poem exploring the effects of a drug that tears the heart out (as well as liver) to those (as well as families and friends) who seek to pacify their inflictions ... abusive alchohol use only makes it more difficult to deal with life's problems and then becomes a problem itself ... and it's legal ...
excellent iamges and message ,,,

Abdi Noor this is the most powerful impacting piece I have read on alcoholism! You should send it to newpapers and magazines. It is exceptionally written! If this doesn't make drinkers think, I don't know what will!

One of my best friends died from alcoholism at the young age of 28 I believe. She was a wonderful person but unfortunately she never shared my vision of her. Lost and alone in her own world while surrounded by friends who loved her she drifted off into an alcoholic haze and never returned. It broke my heart to watch her and even more to lose her to an early and unnecessary death. Excellent pen, Abdi-Noor, though a tearful memory awakener for me.
Take care,
Sherry

To live in peace with himself
He had to free himself from himself

This sadly applies to so many addictions in life, Abdi-Noor. A very powerful piece.
