As a Moslem i have to say something about these cartoons. Prophet Muhammad Peace Be Upon Him has been depicted in some papers as a terrorist ready to blow up himself to take the lives of innocent people. I think that was caused by the west’s lack of understanding about Islam and its foundations as a religion of peace.
Mr. Editor, your cartoons created chaos
Were you testing your power to incite people?
Or were you intending to provoke the Moslems?
Were you trying to redraw the world religious map?
Or were you joining dots to invent a green line?
Were you simply exercising freedom of speech?
Or were you making money out of violence?
Don’t you admire and appreciate religious diversity?
Or are you blind of the beauty of cultural rainbow?

I have great respect to all religions
I can't do to Jesus what you have done to my Prophet
Nor can I do that to Moses and the Torah
Harming them in anyway would affect my faith

I am glad to hear you articulate this so objectively, yet with so much passion and intellect seeing greed for what it truly is. I do not understand a great deal about Islam, however I do have a wonderful authors-sister kinship with Sister Safi and consider her an honorable woman. Racism is nothing new, and I would bet that if Islam were not represented by millions of people of color, this senseless type of "news" would have never occured. Your calling for peace is far more noble than trading disrespect for disrespect. Yet as a woman who gave birth to generations past my children's Akan and Mbundu ancestors, I understand how people want to make chaos using negative symbols. It is something I brought up repeatedly as a graduate student in journalism in college.
Yes we all have a long way to go in this world. And we all have choice of our beliefs and must give account to God for our actions against humanity. God does not like disharmony.

I think religions are the biggest topics of nowadays. I believe in God, and my parents believe in Budhism and the Goddess Kwan Yin, but we somehow get along sooo well.
I can sometimes pray to their goddess Kwan Ying, and my prayers are also answered. I also prayed to my God, and God answers my prayers also.
Religions are supposed to teach people "love" and not "hate", and each religion are supposed to love one another.

I live in Croatia ( a part of ex-Yugoslavia.Bosnia( only a few hours away,) is under muslim rule and all those that are not muslim live in HELL!

Abdi Noor I agree with all that you've said. I have to add that people have also debased Christ. Numerous times and ways. A painting of someone urinating on him a cartoon making fun of his crown of thorns, just to mention a couple. They mock His Mother Mary also. The people who do this are allowed to get away with it using the free speech clause in our laws. Things have gone way too far and no one knows how to stop it anymore. It is all a game of politics with each side blaming the other for lack of leadership and morals.
What we have lack of, is people understanding that they have allowed the ACLU and politics to dictate the standards we will live by in this country. They have been so watered down that there is no longer respect or reverence for anything! What happened with the cartoons about Mohammed is just another result of what is happening the world over. Lack of dicipline, morality, irreverence, and lawlessness. All signs of what has been prophesied as Armageddon, the final days. When people refuse to revere God, who else will they revere? The answer is the evil one. The choice is ours to make and sadly too few are making the right choice! Prayer has become a dire necessity! Keep the faith, brother!I'm sorry that this happened, but I thnk there will be a lot worse from all sides in the future, it has become a runaway world society, due to the technological advance in communication!Linked to a dismantling of moral standards.

Brother Abdi-Noor , we are witnessing the ignorance and intolerance of far too many alleged relegious. Do they really not know that God is love no matter what your belief. You more than anyone has made me view Muslims in a more positive light. Would I could say the same about many Christians. For the record I believe in God and because of that belief I can say without hesitation, NAMASKA "The God in me salutes, and honors the God in you." Peace, love, and blessings to you and yours. Your voice is not of chaos; when I hear you speak, peace is what I hear. You have never said a disparaging comment; you've always accepted people, especially Karen and myself, for whom we are, despite our different beliefs. We believe in God, we just call him by different names. :)
Please continue to bridge of spiritual tolerance; yours is the cornerstone. Continue to educate, continue to be the shining example of what Islam is, for I see a man of peace when I look at you.

We very sadly need many bridges in this violent hate-filled world of ours today, Abdi-Noor, and one built of spiritual tolerance would be an excellent one to start with.
Wonderful and much needed write, Abdi-Noor!! I know that violence is not your way and I have been shocked to see the buildings torched and riots in the streets. Yours are a quiet and reverent people and though provoked, are not generally taken to such means of revenge. I believe publishing the drawings was wrong, but obviously an act of stupidity, insensitivity and lack of education and probably not an act of deliberate cruelty. I am Christian, but I certainly would not make fun of another religion's prophet. This is a very big world and there should be room for all of our beliefs, not just the ones that serve me. Thank you for speaking up, this has been a horrible week in what needs to be a time of the world pulling together if we are going to survive.

This is where the problem lies. Many people do not understand the Muslim faith, and they come to quick (and wrong) conclusions. This is where hate and uncertainty lies, and it is an ugly, vicious cycle. Even though I am a Christian, I still respect your faith, and I would NEVER do anything to blasphemize the Muslim faith. Such a sad situation; I pray we learn to aceept each other's differences and learn to see the REAL person inside. "Let there be peace on earth/and let it begin with me..." Very well done!
