When poeming is just another pain

War broke out in my city of Mogadishu. Rockets are landing in residential areas like rain. Many people perished, many mothers were widowed, many children were orphaned, market prices sky rocketed, families got displaced yet no one is thinking about their quandary and they are not expecting anyone to come and say "Sorry I did this to you, please forgive me" This poem is dedicated to those unarmed civilians who died in the war and for those like me who nobody knows whether they will pass away in the coming days if this war continues with the current pace.

Fighting broke out
Bullets flew over
Business halted
Roads blocked
Rockets fired
Children killed
Women raped
Stories reported
Elders intervened
Evils reconciled
Guns silenced
War got stopped
But no fighter apologized publicly
No one comforted a bereaved mother
No one held responsible for:
The crimes he committed
The murders he orchestrated
The killings he masterminded
The innocents he had plotted
Oh... has the world gone crazy
Or Am I crazy to write about crime?
What does poem writing mean
When poeming is just another pain?

Dearest Brother Abdi-Noor poeming is often a great release for pain for you and your many readers. That you continue to write is a testament to your sanity. Peace, love, and blessings to you and yours. I have spoken to Huriya, and I keep you all in my prayers. Mikii

Brother Abdi Noor, how often we feel this way, when bad things happen! I sometimes wonder the same myself, am I wasting time on poetry when I could be making a difference elswhere? The truth is , the world is full of people working ,volunteering, all trying to make a difference and the wars continue, as does the strife of all humanity....However there is a way that writers and poets have to bring about change, through what they write. I know for a fact for I am in contact with some who have claimed to find a source of comfort and change of attitude, through my Christian counseling and writings. I know that from you I receive knowledge that I wouldn't have otherwise. You keep us informed at the same time you entertain and you have the outlet for your own emotions that bring you relief from the stress of what is happening. I'll be in prayer for you and Somalia, and hope you continue to share your work with us to both inform and entertain!

God Bless you, your family and Somalia!

Love

feel you here Abdi, the world is crazy and has been for quite a long time. Your war there, is bad, no doubt about it. Here in America the enemy walks right beside you in the day. When night falls you may end up robbed, carjacked or murdered, domestic terrorism. Sometimes in broad daylight. As far as poetry is concerned, it is a form of release. Your poem helped me understand that I had better not take nothing for granted, which most Americans do. Not Me anymore. take care

when we rest in the poem and allow it to wrest truth from us, to lay it all bare, pain will be inevitable and seemingly unbearable. from our self-sacrifice and following the story of the words, sometimes we are so lucky to see love and hope born anew. sometimes we never know they are born or that they are born or what their names will be, for often the fruit of a poem appears further from the center of our lives, even in a stranger's life. I am always grateful to a poet for his or her faithfulness to telling the truths when to do so causes pain. that makes the best kind of poetry in my book, Abdi-Noor, and while you may wonder if it's just all about death, I think what you do is mostly about life. just a few thoughts... Your poem means a great deal, Abdi-Noor, since it's truly written from the heart.

We only read about it in the papers and can barely imagine what untold horrors must be happening in Somalia. Thank you for thi powerful tribute. We can only hope and pray that the world is cleansed of the selfish politicos who send the ordinary to war. And wish that the laymen would realise how hapless it is to remain pawns in the hands of power play.

Awww, Abdi-noor, when will people ever learn that violence/hatred is NOT the way to solve things?? You are in my prayers, as is your family; God be with you during this scary time!

Brother Abdi-noor,

A heartwrending question you ask--but if you don't poem, people will not know. It is your duty to tell the world of the unrest in your city. You are kind of like a reporter...a powerful, powerful write. You and your family, your people, your Nation, are in extra prayers.

(((((HUGS))))) and love, your sister, Karla.
