I wonder how a whole nation can lose its freedom to tribal thugs who control every corner of the country including its seas and oceans at the barrel of the gun.
Somalia was plunged into turbulent waters of chaos and slavery as its freedom and the freedom of its people were trampled on By warlords . This will not go on like this forever. Sooner or later it shall stop.
Freedom once achieved can not be robbed
Nor can it be stolen or taken away from
No free man can compromise his freedom
Unless he gained freedom without fighting for it
Freedom swims in the blood of the free man
Inside each other the two live on each other
They are two lives living together in one life
You can not grab one without taking the other
How have the Somalis lost their freedom?
Have we lost it when the white man arrived?
Have we come to know about it when he had left?
Have we fought only against European Occupation?
Or we also fought to break chains with tribal slavery?
Slavery does not mean lack of freedom
It means lack of a will to be free
Somalis know freedom but they are not free people
They are slaves to their tribal belief
Their freedom is on fire. It is burning
Their national fibre greatly dismantled
In tatters and tears it sunk in depths of misery
But like Martin L. King I have a dream
I see Somalia rising again to a position of honour
Let Education be our main tool of change
Let the pen bring our lost freedom back to us
Let the gun go hell

These words ring so loud and clear to me, Abdi-Noor for in my country the apathy is rampant and it is usually not from those who have worn a uniform and fought for freedom. It comes from those who stayed back and decided not to defend the rights that they enjoy and now feel they have the right to question the methods required to maintain it. I don't approve of slavery but I do understand that it is not possible to enslave the mind, spirit and soul of any human...still, physical slavery, ownership and being under the control and at the mercy of another is, simply put, WRONG. What makes one man a slave and another an owner? Though the situation of your country appears grim, at some point, people will rise up and claim what is rightfully theirs. I pray that day will come soon.
