Where is my Elder Son, Mr. Rain?

Torrential rains have destroyed houses and killed people yesterday in Mogadishu. In this poem I portray the feelings of a father who had lost his son in the floods. He is talking to the rain and the rain would talk back.

You Mr.rain
In the beginning
You looked so light
You poured on gently
Touched the mind softly
Trickled down wisely

But

You suddenly changed pace
You shifted your shape
You came out with new colors
You slowly grew thick claws
You appeared to be a beast
Too heavy and torrential in nature
You pounded my roof ruthlessly
Bringing disastr of high magnitude
Breaking hearts beyond imagination

Wars had forced me to flee
Now you force me to flee again
Where is my makeshift house?
And where is my elder son?
I'm missing part of myself
Where have you taken him?

Rain says
Into the sea I had swept him
With flooding waters I dug trenches
To carry away everything I see around
I can drown the city within no time
You have no government in place
Your drainage facilities are blocked
Who can stop me from wreaking havoc uopn
you?

Water is alot more powerful that a person could ever imagine. Who knows why he lost his son, and who knows why he has to move on?
You make us think. That is wonderful! So sad yet powerfully penned.
I enjoyed reading your work.

Abdi Noor, you captivate us with a scene that could be written for films, yet it is reality which makes it all the more powerful and sad.
I pray for you and your countrymen that the leadership changes soon.
God bless you and yours!

Love,
Eileen

This is one for the warlords, the waddaddo, and all those who seek to destroy others for worldly gains. Wise words.

you have taught us alot with this poem, not only touching us with the anger and grief of a father. We see and hear on TV of the floods, but are not made aware of how war has caused the city to be unprotected from natural disaster. Another excellent work, Abdi-Noor. I read your poem about the black cat to my daughters last night. We have a black cat, Coco. Naturally, it broke their hearts. But it also enlightened them to the heightened superstitions within a wartorn country. I am always excited to read your posts!
